Looking to 2026: A New Senedd Constituency and a New Conservative Opportunity

As Wales approaches the 2026 Senedd election, a significant change is taking place in how our communities will be represented in Cardiff Bay. One of the most notable developments is the creation of the new Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Rhymney constituency—bringing together diverse towns and villages across three historic areas into one unified voice in the Welsh Parliament.

This new constituency reflects the evolving political landscape and offers an important opportunity for renewal and representation that truly speaks to the people who live and work here. From the communities of Abertillery and Ebbw Vale in the north, through Newbridge and Abercarn, down to the heart of Caerphilly and across to Rhymney and beyond, this area has a rich history of industry, resilience, and community spirit. It deserves bold, forward-looking representation—something the Welsh Conservatives are committed to delivering.

For too long, many of our communities have been overlooked by a complacent Labour administration in Cardiff Bay. Public services are stretched, infrastructure investment is lagging, and the opportunities local people deserve remain out of reach. We believe the residents of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Rhymney deserve better—and that change starts with strong Conservative voices standing up for them.

The creation of this new Senedd seat is not just a technical reshaping of boundaries—it’s a real chance to change direction. At Caerphilly Conservative Association, we see this as a fresh opportunity to reconnect with voters, build new relationships across our expanded patch, and champion a message of aspiration, local pride, and common-sense government.

Candidate Selection Process

We are pleased to announce that we are already well underway with preparations to fight and win in this new seat. Our selection process to find the best possible candidates to represent the Welsh Conservatives in the new constituency is progressing with purpose and professionalism. Our aim is to have candidates in place by Autumn 2025—giving our local campaign team several months to work closely with communities, understand local priorities, and build momentum on the ground.

This process is being managed in line with our party’s commitment to fairness, openness, and local engagement. We are seeking candidates of integrity, energy, and local understanding—people who can communicate Conservative values in a way that resonates with every community across the constituency. Those interested in standing will go through a rigorous assessment and selection process, overseen by our local association in close consultation with Party HQ in Cardiff and London.

Campaign Preparations

Make no mistake—our campaign is already taking shape. Behind the scenes, our volunteers and activists have been working hard to lay the groundwork for a winning campaign. From data gathering and canvassing preparation to fundraising and strategic planning, we are building a campaign operation that is ready to hit the ground running the moment our candidate is selected.

We know we have work to do, but we also know that people are ready for change. Across Wales, support for the Welsh Conservatives is growing as more people see through Labour’s tired excuses and failed promises. In Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Rhymney, we will be offering a positive alternative—focused on opportunity, accountability, and local pride.

Get Involved

We encourage all members and supporters who want to be part of this exciting campaign to get in touch. Whether you're interested in volunteering, delivering leaflets, talking to voters, helping online, or simply staying informed, your support is vital to our success.

This is a historic moment for our area—a new political map, new voices in Cardiff Bay, and a new opportunity for Conservative values to take root and thrive.

Let’s seize this opportunity — together.
